Simonson Archives 1989
1989’s models included Efren, a Filipino bodybuilder I met in the gym at Honolulu’s Central YMCA, Stephen, a Chinese-Caucasian heartthrob who taught aerobics, and Allen, a hunky Portuguese-Hawaiian-Filipino guy I met through my friend Gina. Notable works completed that year include Globetrotter, Ancestors (Na Kupuna), Dolphins and TDK-Gotcha Pro.Â
Here I am in 1989 in my studio on Date Street in Honolulu, with the just-completed white-pencil drawing “Ancestors (Na Kupuna).”
