6. Project 2271: Fifth and Final Painting Session
December 12, 2025
With the background done, I focused on the sombrero and the head for this final painting session. Pay close attention because these final touches are subtle, but they make a big difference!
5. Project 2271: Fourth Painting Session
December 10, 2025
In this fourth painting session, I spent almost the whole time working on the background. Getting those out-of-focus palms with the sun coming through them was a real challenge, but I like what I got.
4. Project 2271: Third Painting Session
December 9, 2025
In this session I continued blocking in colors in the background, then turned my attention to the head and face, and moved it along quite a lot.
3. Project 2271: Second Painting Session
December 7, 2025
In this session I started adding color to both the background and the face and figure. At this stage everything is still pretty rough, but getting the main color areas laid in is vital before starting to refine things.
2. Project 2271: First Painting Session
December 6, 2025
In this session, I covered the pencil sketch with an acrylic wash, then began adding the first colors to the painting.
1. Project 2271: New Painting: Sombrero 2
December 5, 2025
My first sombrero painting went so well I decided it would be a practice piece for a larger painting with a similar theme. I’m using another Artistly-produced image as the source. Here you can see the source photo and how it looks after I’ve tweaked it in Photoshop. Tomorrow I’ll transfer it to canvas and start work on the painting.
